Color gel photography offers photographers a tool for artistic expression, allowing them to experiment with different color combinations and moods to evoke emotions or convey specific themes in their images. Understanding color theory and the interaction between different colored gels is essential for achieving desired results. We will go over various applications and approaches used in different genres. With hands on shooting time, you’ll walk away with a solid understanding of how to play with gels in future projects!

Emotions elevate the aesthetic quality of a photograph. A technically perfect image may lack emotional resonance, making it feel sterile and disconnected. On the other hand, a photograph that captures the essence of emotions adds a layer of depth and beauty that transcends the technical aspects of composition and lighting. The interplay of light and shadow, the compositional elements within the frame, and the timing of the shot all contribute to the visual storytelling, creating a visual masterpiece that not only pleases the eye but also stirs the soul.
During this class we are going to walk through techniques on how to coax emotions out of our subject. Bring your cameras and let’s have some fun on each other.
