There Are No Absolutes …. And That Is Absolutely True! with Tennessee Rick Elliot
April 9 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Bring an open mind and a good sense of humor.
Is it an evening of photo exploration or just an act of penance?
Let’s take an evening and examine the precepts we hold as photographers. Your ol’ buddy Tennessee Rick
will talk primarily about portrait photography, but as a “tip of the hat” to you landscape photographers he’ll
mention f/22.0 at least once.
Look on YouTube and you’ll see review after review about new cameras and gear that will “make you amazing.”
For this one evening let’s talk about what you can do with what you already have. Maybe “amazing” has been right there in front of us all along, and all we really need to do is cast aside our preconceived presumptions and expand our notion of what actually makes a meaningful photo.
We’ll talk a little about light, a little bit about posing, and we’ll especially talk about anyone who
doesn’t show up! (Gossip is Tennessee’s specialty)
“I’ve heard that Tennessee has served hard time. I’d watch my wallet closely if I were you.” – Joe McNalley
“I’ve only met Tennessee once…., I got a restraining order right away. Why take chances?”- Tony Corbell
“I guess he’s sort of Ok. He is the favorite of all my children…, but I guess that’s natural, he is an only child.”-Tennessee’s Mom
BIO
Tennessee Rick Elliott started his photography journey late in life when the former yearbook advisor unexpectedly retired and he inherited the position of yearbook instructor.
Taking sports photos for the high school in which he taught became quite a passion for him, and he was blessed to be hired as a sports photographer at Carson Newman University after he retired from teaching.
Shooting action sports planted the seed of passion for portraiture, and he has focused on low-key, film noir-style images. Far from being a creative artist, he relies on stealing ideas from other photographers . . . , I mean he “draws creative inspiration from a multitude of sources.”
