PPA degrees are a way to measure a photographer’s expertise, showing a photographer is meeting some of the industry’s highest standards for professional photography. They display an ongoing commitment to growing, improving, and sharing their skills.

Glossary of Credentials

Cr. / Cr.Photog: Photographic Craftsman

Awarded for service as an orator, author or mentor. This degree shows that a photographer has gone beyond the creation of images and dedicated their time to move the industry forward and encourage education.

M.Artist: Master Artist

Awarded for superior photographic skills—demonstrated through the Artist Exhibition category of the PPA International Photographic Competition (with images evaluated for computer-applied techniques and proficiency), advanced education and service to the industry.

M.Photog.: Master of Photography

Awarded for superior photographic skills—demonstrated through the PPA International Photographic Competition, advanced education and service to the industry.

Professional Photographers of America Certification

CPP: Certified Professional Photographer

CPP, Certified Professional Photographer, Certification for Photographers, Photography Certification, Photography Association, Photographer's AssociationThe Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) program from PPA assures the public of a photographer’s knowledge, experience and continuance to develop new skills and techniques.

Hiring a CPP is like quality assurance—as the CPP credential serves to identify professional photographers who have demonstrated technical competence through a written examination and photographic image submission. PPA and the Certification Committee follow standards for certification which are established by the national Institute of Credentialing Excellence (ICE).

Tennessee Professional Photographers Association Degrees

TCD: Tennessee Certified Degree

The Tennessee Certified Degree is earned by entering the Tennessee Image Competition and receiving exceptional image scoring. This degree is awarded to those who show exceptional creative works of art in their imagery and are technical experts in the field of photography.

TSD: Tennessee Service Degree

The Tennessee Service Degree recognizes members who are actively serving within the organization. It is earned by doing work that provides service to TNPPA and the photographic community.
