Pro Photographers’ Social + Lunch

Attendees are encouraged to get together for a social and lunch at the Whitestone Inn’s famous Farmhouse before the seminar and workshop. This is a time for all pro photographers in East Tennessee—young and old, new and experienced—to get together and network, socialize, and have fun with their peers.

To attend the lunch, you must pre-pay by Monday, Sept. 14 at noon, as we will need to provide Whitestone Inn a firm headcount for lunch. Tickets are non-refundable.

You can purchase member and non-member lunch tickets below by selecting your ticket type and clicking “Add to Cart”.

Pro Photo Workshop: Portraits

This month’s workshop is PPETN’s biggest and most exciting event this year! We have a full day of photography, multiple locations, and plenty of opportunities for you to experiment new techniques and expand your comfort zone at the incredibly beautiful Whitestone Country Inn.

This workshop is for photographers of all experience levels. This workshop is a time to capture some beautiful images, ask questions, and share ideas and techniques with each other. Each attendee will have the opportunity to photograph models in different on-location settings (bring you gear and plan to shoot).

Upon completion of Gary’s seminar, we will divide the group into an appropriate number of shooting sites, based on the number of photographers and the number of models. If you know a model to recommend, forward vital statistics and contact information to PPETN President Nicole Webber (email Nicole) (please note that tattoos on models are acceptable only if they are covered and not visible in photographs).

At approximately 3:30 PM we will disperse to various sites on the property and begin a round-robin rotation, with changes to occur every 45 minutes. You will have 15 minutes to relocate to your next site and begin the next 45 minute photography window (see below). You will be allowed to drive your personal vehicle from one site to the next, but please be careful of pedestrians. The Chapel will be off limits to our group at 6:30 PM due to a wedding rehearsal taking place there.

  • 3:30-4:15 PM: Session 1
  • 4:30-5:15 PM: Session 2
  • 5:30-6:15 PM: Session 3
  • 6:30-7:15 PM: Session 4 (Chapel off limits)
  • (Sunset will occur at 7:44 PM)
  • 7:30-8:15 PM: Session 5 (Chapel off limits)

Planned shooting locations at Whitestone (map is above):

  • A: LION & LAMB

Assuming there are enough attendees for three groups of photographers/models, each attendee will be able to photograph at 5 of the 6 sites. The following matrix is a preliminary plan:

Many members may not be able to participate in the early hours of this workshop due to prior commitments. However, all member are strongly encouraged to come participate when you can, as this will be a great workshop and Whitestone Inn is a gorgeous wedding and event venue that is allowing us to use their facilities.

Each photographer and model will be asked to sign a release and photographers must submit their images for download before departing. Failure to do so will revoke your participation in future workshops. After the event, each attendee will have 30 days to submit via email a minimum of three (3) retouched images of each model photographed to PPETN. These images will be shared with the models and Whitestone Country Inn. This is vitally important for PPETN to maintain positive relationships with models and venues, which allow PPETN to provide this opportunity to members now and in the future.

If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to Ambler Brown via email (email Ambler).

Laughlin Print Photography Competition

The Pro’s Choice “East Tennessee Photographer of the Month” is awarded based on the votes of fellow professional photographers and pays for PPETN’s annual scholarship.

Make sure to prepare, print, digitally submit, and bring your 8″x10″ prints in for submitting. You can compete to be the Pro’s Choice “East Tennessee Photographer of the Month” and earn points toward the prestigious Pro’s Choice “East Tennessee Photographer of the Year” award!

Studio, Active, and Aspiring members may submit to the competition. Active and primary Studio members may vote in the competitions.

Annual Scoring

Points towards the Pro’s Choice “East Tennessee Photographer of the Year” will be recorded each month.

All monthly winning images will be published on the PPETN website with back-links to your website (verify your website is correct on our members page). This will help with your exposure (P.R.) and SEO (search engine optimization)!

Entry Fees

Entry fees provide funding each year for the awarding of the Michael Laughlin Memorial Scholarship. This is a $500 scholarship members can apply for to attend any PPA-approved school or training event. (The criteria and application is available on the website and we encourage members who qualify to apply.) Entry fees are $3 per image, up to four images.

In-Person Digital Submissions

If you choose to submit images in-person via portable media, that media may not be returned. In the case of USB flash drives, the drive must be well labeled and will be returned to you, but due to data storage limits, it may not be returned until a later date. Please communicate with PPETN’s Web Editor how and when you prefer to have your drive returned to you, and they will do what they can to make that happen.

PPETN Door Prizes

PPETN tries to give away door prizes at our monthly events (last year, PPETN gave away hundreds of dollars worth of gear and equipment)—all you have to do is be present to win! Door prizes have been generously donated to PPETN by featured speakers, local and national photography labs, education companies, and equipment manufacturers.

As available, we will give one door prize out to the first-place entry in the Laughlin Print Photography Competition, and one will be given randomly to an Active, Studio, or Aspiring member in good standing AND in attendance. Repeat: You MUST be present to win a door prize!
