July 12th – 6:00 P.M. gathering, fellowship & Dutch dinner. 8×10 print competition starts at 6:30 P.M. Presentation at 7:00 – 9:00 P.M
Many photographers don’t use their camera’s flash because the results are far from pleasing and often inconsistent. Can you relate? This hands-on presentation will discuss the basics of how to use your DSLR’s flash to get the results you want. We’ll talk about basic ideas that can vastly improve your use of your camera’s flash as well as more advanced concepts, including equipment choices on a budget (or not), the settings for your camera
and your flash, thinking of lighting in layers, placement of the subject, balancing ambient light and flash, and much more. We’ll not only talk about it, we’ll actually do it together. So make sure you bring your camera and external flash as well as their manuals (because I don’t know how to work every camera and flash out there). Whether you are a beginner or a more advanced photographer, there should be something here for you.
The Presenter will be a Knoxville Professional Photographer, Colby McLemore.
For some, photography is a hobby, for others a passion, but for Colby, it’s a way of life. A student described Colby’s infectious enthusiasm best: “Colby creates an environment where learning is fun and classes speed by.” The body of Colby’s professional work revolves around commercial product, architecture, and food imagery; executive, family, and children’s portraiture; editorial assignments; and wedding and corporate event photography. Colby’s images have won numerous professional awards and he is currently Photographer of the Year for Tennessee’s Professional Photographer Association as well as for Professional Photographers of East Tennessee. His images frequently grace national magazines, newspapers, books, and now even a smartphone app. He teaches photography at the University of Tennessee and is an Adobe-Certified Expert. You may have met him in one of many local photography associations (professional as well as enthusiast), where he is often a speaker, judge, or photo competition organizer.
