Mandarin House Restaurant, 314 Merchants Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912, 6:00PM – 9:00PM

From small beginnings in Uganda, Maz Mashru build a successful photography business with talent, education and hard work, ultimately becoming the photographer of choice when dignitaries and political VIPs came to his Ugandan locale. He photographed President Obote, President Kenyatta, President Moi, President Nyerere. President Kaunda, HH Agakhan, Idi Amin to name a few prior to his becoming a victim of General Amin’s 1972 expulsion order of people from Indian descent from Uganda.

Maz was forced to leave his country penniless and came to Britain as a Uganda Asian refugee. He brought only his wife and his sister and began his career again, starting with a job selling film in a camera store and ultimately building one of the UK’s most impressive photography corporations, including his prestigious portrait studio, The Portrait House, an event decoration business and a bridal boutique featuring designer gowns from Italy.

Maz is one of the UK’s consistent top scoring and most decorated photographers. He is once again his country’s choice of photographer for political leaders, celebrities and foreign dignitaries; both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have found themselves in front of his lens for official portraits. Most recently he was honoured for his photographic achievements with a reception at the House of Commons, has been featured on both television and radio shows and was named for a second time “Mr. Leicester” by his community.

Maz’s current project is opening the International Institute of Imaging Excellence in Leicester UK as a source of education and inspiration to both aspiring and practicing professional photographers. His space encompasses a full city block and in his two floors of working space he will have working studio bays, classrooms, a library and full capability for education and production of high-level portraiture.

Please visit Maz’s website at http://www.mazmashru.co.uk for more information on his art and his businesses.
